Cherry Pie Filling

After 5 1/2 years of marriage, Joseph has finally told me his favorite dessert...Cherry Pie filling. I must admit relief and disappointment at this revelation. Relief to know what Joseph's favorite dessert is, but disappointment because it's just cherry pie filling.

This year I have tried to make more elegant and decadent desserts for the speical holidays through the year...Valentine's Day, our anniversary, Mother's Day, Joseph's birthday, Father's day, you get the idea. I have made multiple cheesecakes, fancy cakes and my newest recipe from my sister, Kristin, a Rocky Road tart. And Joseph admitted last night that none of them come close to boring cherry pie filling out of a can! He even rated the rocky road tart an 8 out of 10 on the good scale with cherry pie filling (here after CPF) being a 10! It took a moment for me to realize that the yummy chocolate tart was beneath CPF and when it dawned on me I stopped mid bite and said: "Wait a minute, you would rather have CPF over this dessert?" It was true.

I guess part of my disbelief is that I am a huge chocolate lover. I would never even consider eating CPF if anything else was being offered and if it was the only thing being offered, I would pass or eat some to be polite. Joseph doesn't have to share my love for chocolate, but surely there is some treat I can make that is better than CPF.

I now know what to fix Joseph for Valentine's day and his birthday. I'll have to start buying CPF.

Does anyone else share my confusion?

By the way, lest this appears like an angry woman venting about her husband, I wasn't upset with Joseph for having CPF as his favorite dessert, just really surprised. I laugh at the irony of it.

Mystery Solved

Kimball is currently working on potty training and we have decided he needs a little nudge in the right direction. We told him if he stayed dry all day we would give him a new HotWheel. That was incentive enough for him. He stayed dry the first day we mentioned a new car. Too bad he relapsed a little day two. Oh well. That happens...his day two incentive wasn't as exciting as a new car.

Anyway, yesterday he was playing with his new car all day and loving it. By dinner time it was lost and he was asking us to find it. Kimball, Joseph and I searched and searched and searched for this new car and we couldn't find it. We put Kimball to bed and I continued to search.

During our searching I found a different car that has been missing for probably 6 months. Kimball frequently asks where his red Daddy jeep is and we just tell him it's missing. He was so excited to discover it this morning that he forgot to ask about the new car he got for staying dry. Joseph and I continued to search all day.

A few moments ago, I sat down in our chair at the computer and I look in the cup holder and discovered the new car. Joseph sat in the chair all night last night and never saw it. I don't know how he could have missed it, but if he hadn't I wouldn't have found the Daddy red jeep. Now we just need to find the Mama Red Truck.

By the way, Rebecah turned 8 months a few weeks ago. She is doing well. She thinks it's a game to roll over but isn't crawling yet. She loves squash, carrots and sweet potatoes and tolerates everything else.

Labor Day

We had a busy Labor Day. We always work on house projects on our extended weekends. Joseph spent a lot of time trimming branches from our trees, mowing the lawn and pruning bushes. I spent the weekend in the laundry room sanding, priming and painting it. I'm glad that project is finally finished. There is just something about a second coat of paint that really completes a project and gives it a finished look.

We did squeeze in some fun, too. Dr. Allison invited us over to his house to swim in his pool. Kimball loved the pool and had a blast. Rebecah loved sitting on the top step of the pool and splashing with her feet. Here are a few pictures from our pool party.

Kimball

Kimball is very social and doesn't want to miss a thing. He is always wanting to be on the go. Here are a few pictures of his past week.

Last week it was raining and Kimball has been asking to dance in the rain for a few weeks. I promised him a few weeks ago that the next time it rained he could go dance in the rain. He loved dancing in the rain and it has rained a few times since last Monday and everytime it rains he wants to go back out and dance. I guess if I had been a better mom I would have joined him in the rain, but I really hate to get wet. I just hung out under the awning and took the pictures.



Here is a picture of Kimball with his friend Paisley. We had Paisley over to play last week while her parents packed up their house and loaded a moving truck. Too bad our playdates with Paisley were when she was moving.

This last picture is a tribute to Uncle McKay. He sent Kimball the tie he is wearing for his birthday. He was very excited about his tie! Thank you McKay!

Fun in the Sun

The weather has been lovely this week. It has cooled off enough that we can go outside without sweating instantly. With the nice weather we have gone back to our walks in the morning and have spent a little more time outside.

Vacation

As mentioned in Kimball's birthday post we spent last week in St. Louis while Joseph attended a medical conference. Joseph did spend a few hours in class but also spent a lot of time seeing the Columbia River Gorge and Mount St. Helen's. He also attended the Portland temple and spent two evenings at his Aunt and Uncle's house.

We missed Jospeh but we were busy visiting our family and doing some of the following:

We went to a popular ice cream place in St. Louis called Ted Drewes. Kimball fell asleep on the way there and woke up just before we left so he didn't miss out on the ice cream. It was good.

Kimball also played Wii for the first time. He wasn't too bad when his Uncle Scott or I were helping him. He played Wii Baseball and Golf with his cousins He loved playing Wii and wanted to play the following morning too.

Our week wouldn't have been as much fun without the cousins. It is great for Kimball to have opportunities to play with boys because most of the children his age at home are girls.
