September was a busy month with the end of Summer and the start of school.
As bishop of our congregation Joseph is trying to build relationships in the interfaith community. He had lunch with Pastor Swanson and then our two congregations teamed up to collect school supplies for schools in the area. The little ones went with Joseph to drop off the school supplies and Pastor Swanson gave the kids a short tour of the building.
Our last hurrah of summer was going to WonderWorks. It was like a small Science center. I liked the size and I enjoyed it more than the Science museum in Syracuse and the Science Center in St. Louis. It was fairly empty since it was Summer time and Covid is still raging across the country. We opted for this activity instead of going to the more crowded State Fair.

Football Season has stared. Kimball is the back up quarterback this year for the junior varsity team. Thank goodness his games are on YouTube because it has been hard to catch all of his games in person. He has also been a water boy for the Varsity team and has enjoyed being on the sidelines for those games.
Joseph, the younger kids, and I went on a hike at Clarks Reservation. We had heard a lot of good things about this park over the years so we finally gave it a try. Maybe it was the mosquitos, but I didn't think it was any more exciting than any other park in our area. There were a lot of mosquitoes, but the mosquitoes have been really bad this summer!
One day Annika wanted to go hiking with Joseph, but no one else wanted to go so they went on a little date together. They had a lot of fun.
While they were on their date, I took everyone else who wanted to the school playground. The schools must spray for mosquitoes because there are far fewer mosquitoes at the school.
Kimball FINALLY had a haircut!! He still wants to grow it out, but at least it's all the same length now. I'll enjoy the shorter style while I can!
School started on Wednesday, September 8th. The kids were ready and excited for their first day.
Kimball is in 9th grade, Rebecah in 6th grade, Lincoln and Annika in 1st grade, and Eden in Pre-K.
The soccer season has started for the Fall. The kids are on the same teams as in the Spring. Our Thursday and Friday evenings are now busy with practices and our Saturday mornings with games. It's fun watching the kids.

We had the Back to School BBQ this year. I have come to enjoy this gathering now that I know more of the parents at the school. It is always heartwarming to see kids come up to my kids asking to play with them. Annika and Lincoln were both in high demand and it is fun seeing my kids interact with their friends. We left after an hour. As much as Annika enjoyed being with her friends she is an introvert and after an hour of the loud music and all of the people she was just done. She was ready to go home. Lincoln wanted to stay, but he was still willing to go home since some of his friends had left, too.
Grandma and Grandpa Coffey came for a visit. It had been over 2 years since we had seen them because they served a mission in Taiwan during that time. We were busy with soccer and football so we couldn't go on any grand adventures, but we still had fun and made memories.

Annika is frequently caught reading her scriptures. Her reading skill level is still very rudimentary, but she is developing a good habit of scripture reading. She'll also copy down a few verses of scripture into a notebook I gave her. I'm very impressed with her penmanship for a 1st grader.
Joseph and his parents took a 5 day trip to Maine. They visited all sorts of beautiful places in Maine/Acadia National Park. They did a lot of hiking, including Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. They also visited some of the places where Greg served as a missionary many years ago. It was a fun adventure for them.

You always hear about lobster rolls being a must try in Maine so they tried them. A very expensive, over-rated meal was the final verdict. I must say the most appetizing part of the picture is the tomato and cucumber slice!
