Dining Room Project

Carpet and food don't mix very well.  I'm not sure why houses are built with carpet in a dining room.  We have lived in our house 3 years and our dining room carpet needed to be replaced.  In addition to the babies regularly throwing banana on the carpet someone else spilled hot chocolate and there were other food stains, too.  The carpet needed to go.  Last year Joseph started researching the process to install hardwood flooring.

In January Joseph ripped out our carpet and started the process to level the floor.  It took us  many trips to various flooring stores to finally decide on the floor for us.  We ended up going with a mid-color bamboo.  Not too light and not too dark.  The bamboo is supposed to be much harder than oak floors so we hope to avoid scratches, even though scratches are inevitable.

The felt underlay.

Laying the floor.  All of the kids had to be involved.

We are pleased with the end result and it is much easier to clean up after the babies have eaten.

Awesome job! Has your trim always been white? I've always wondered how contractors decide which houses to keep oak or keep white. Is it based on year? We have an older home, so its all oak and inside the closets is white. And also, now i know who to talk to about flooring....
